Official Credit Union for UAB Student Checking Accounts

You must be joint on the account or have access to your student’s online username and password. This will allow you to view their account information through online banking.

Make deposits at over 5,000 nationwide CO-OP Shared Branches or directly to the Credit Union by automatic transfer or mail. Parents can deposit a set amount from their paycheck into their student’s account each month as an allowance. Wire transfers are another option for fast cash transfers.

Parents have full access to the account (including their VISA Debit Card) through Joint Ownership. However, remember that Joint Owners are financially responsible for any defaults or overdrafts.

A Legacy Credit Union checking account provides UAB students easy access to their money and personalized problem-solving if needed. Experts agree this is important in practicing money management skills and establishing good credit.

Students can quickly rack up foreign ATM fees and surcharges from non-local banks using machines outside the network. Legacy has two branches near UAB in Downtown and Southside, plus seven more in the metro Birmingham area.

We make it simple! You can become a member if you live, work, worship, or attend school in Jefferson, Shelby, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, Chilton, or Bibb County.

Here are some of the ways you can transfer funds if you’re a joint on your child’s account:

• Transfer funds online from a non-Legacy financial institution. Check with them if they offer this option and the associated costs.
• You can transfer funds from your Legacy account to your child’s account (online, in person, or by mail).
• Set up cross-account deposit access. Please note that you won’t be able to view your child’s account information until you get it set up (allowing you to deposit AND view your child’s account information). You must set these options up ahead of time by calling one of our Contact Center Representatives at 205.930.5000.
• Wire money to your student’s account.
• Set up direct deposit transfers to your student’s account from your paycheck. Check with your employer to see if this option is available.
• Deposit at over 5,000 CO-OP Shared Branch locations nationwide.
• Deposit at over 40,000 MoneyPass ATMs nationwide. 

If you’re not a joint owner, you can transfer funds via:

• Mail in a check. Make it payable to your child’s full name (as listed on the account) and send it to: Legacy Community Federal Credit Union P.O. Box 55377 Birmingham, AL 35255
• Add your child as a “Payee” in your financial institution’s Bill Pay.
• If your financial institution offers POP Money (a.k.a. “Pay Other People”), Legacy Credit Union account holders can receive POP Money transfers.
• Make a deposit at a CO-OP Shared Branch(cash deposits only).
• Set up cross-account deposit access. Note: This will allow you to deposit into your child’s account but not view the account information. You must set this up ahead of time. Please call one of our Contact Center Representatives at 205.930.5000 to get this set up.
